Be a Content Creator

What are you thoughts on these two categories of Instagram Accounts: Content Creators vs Repost Accounts?

I have been an admin and creator of several pages on Instagram. I have experience with business accounts, youth group/choir accounts, and personal accounts. I have dealt with a large spectrum of different types of Instagram accounts. I would classify most accounts into two categories. I will exclude talking about accounts that are simply there to make reminders of events and plans. The first category is “Content Creators” and the second category is “Repost Accounts”.

I find it very unfortunate that there are many large accounts that pose to be outdoorsy, but they mostly repost other people’s material. Art of Visuals reposts other people's photos because their presets are used. That is perfectly acceptable. But there are brand accounts that simply repost other people’s pictures without creating any of their own content.

There are many branded accounts that pose to be outdoorsy. And I assume that the admins do love the outdoors. But, a lot of times, they simply repost pictures without actually going outside and truly living out what they are representing. There are accounts with over 100k followers, and all they do is repost pictures that they like.

Reposting is not necessarily a bad thing. But often times, it can eliminate the need for actually going outdoors and being there yourself. It is so much easier for an admin of an outdoors Instagram account to simply repost what someone else did rather than experiencing the outdoors for themselves. Instagram is built by “Content Creators” and “Repost Accounts”. I simply wish that people would lean more towards actually creating content rather than just reposting it. Both sides are important but I don’t think we need more accounts that simply repost other people’s pictures. As an admin of Offline Outdoors, I strive to bring content that is original and that is mine.

Create your own content. Go out there and actually take the picture!

Your work is absolutely stunning! Your photography skills are like, 70% of my motivation and inspiration! I don’t have easy access to wilderness like the ones in your photos, but I can get some pretty cool shots from where I live! Thank you so much for being such a great inspiration!

I’m unable to “get out” and experience this world of ours so I enjoy the photographs on these many sites. I prefer viewing the photography on the artists own Instagram page. I seek those sites out and avoid as much as possible posting only sites. It seems though a less known artist might get noticed by having their work posted so how much does it help them or harm? Another topic I guess. Thx!

I couldn’t love this article more. This is my main gripe with Instagram and it’s user base is that the distinction between content creators and marketing accounts can be challenging to discern for the less involved. Its the reason why we have the Kardashians who made millions of dollars before they even created any deliverables, consumables, or digital content. It’s the Era of Exposure and the ones who suffer the most are the ones who sacrifice for their craft or profession which isn’t fair but hey thats life.
